We are a boutique hosting company specialising in web technologies for digital agencies.

Due to our continued growth we are currently recruiting a Linux Hosting Support Engineer / Linux Systems Engineer.

Linux Hosting Support Engineer / Linux Systems Engineer General Summary:

The Linux Support Engineer / Linux Systems Engineer interacts with our Dedicated Hosting customers via the telephone and ticketing system to walk them through basic system administration tasks such as adding users, setting permissions, and configuring services. System administrators resolve issues utilising a variety of resources necessary, knowledge, skills, techniques and tools. This includes research from the internet, books and product documentation, other employees within the support organisation.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

> Performs administration of Ubuntu and Red Hat machines in a large managed hosting environment.
> Ability to troubleshoot and resolve customer’s issue in a production environment
> Analyses errors and logs
> Assists in policing our Acceptable use policies and monitoring customer usage
> Troubleshoots and analyses cause of performance problems
> Ability to trouble-shoot complex application-level problems independently
> Exercises judgement using procedures and best practices to determine appropriate problem resolution
> Other duties and tasks as assigned.

Must be able to demonstrate the following:

> First class experience within Linux Hosting environment Operating System -- Intermediate knowledge and use of Red Hat, CentOS and Ubuntu.
> Knowledge of commands/utilities including but not limited to FTP, Apache, telnet, SMTP, POP, IMAP, SSH, nmap, vi, snmp, cron
> Familiarity with basic system administration tools and processes
> Experience with maintaining, configuring, and troubleshooting Red Hat/CentOS & Ubuntu servers.
> Working knowledge in mail server applications using SMTP/POP3/IMAP.
> Ability to troubleshoot basic networking issues using traceroutes, etc.
> Ability to troubleshoot Hardware firewalls, and VPN.
> Has a solid understanding of Intel-based server hardware, including RAID configuration.
> Solid understanding of DNS Record types, resolution process, troubleshooting.
> Working understanding of virtualisation practices and experience with VMWare vSphere.

The following certifications and/or education are a bonus:

> IT qualification or related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

You may have worked in the following capacities:

> Linux Data Centre Engineer
> Linux IT Support Engineer
> Linux Support Analyst
> Linux Administrator
